Age Defying Green Smoothie
We went through our research article on what ingredients make you look and feel younger, and we made a smoothie out of the strongest ingredients. Our recipe is even consistent with Max Lugavere's video on controlling your biological age, which you can do with nutrition and lifestyle.
Antioxidants, by definition, prevent and remove oxidising agents. These are the elements that naturally age us. When our oxidative stress levels increase (malnutrition, stress, sleep deprivation) we are more susceptible to disease and we age faster. To combat those stresses, we need to load up on green leafs and lemon. These familiar ingredients are notorously rich in antioxidants. One of which is vitamin C, which not only prevents disease and aging it also stablises the structure of collagen, making our skin youthfully firm.
But you guys knew about lemon, kale and spinach. They populate every health website for good reason. More surprising is the power of the pumpkin seed. These guys are one of our absolute favourite ingredients. Not only do they create a creamy smoothie but this size serving of pumpkin seeds will satisfy your daily needs of magnesium, zinc and copper. All anti-aging. Not stopping there, pumpkin seeds are also rich in protein, manganese, potassium, iron and healthy fats. Pumpkin seeds (or pepitas) are therefore a necessity for any healthy pantry.
Another superfood that isn't common enough for us is hemp seeds. These guys are like chia seeds, only more nutritious. Containing all nine essential amino acids, its also six times more dense in omega-3 than raw tuna. As we mentioned in our anti-ageing article, essential fatty acids like omega-3 hydrate skin and prevent wrinkles. Hemp seeds can be blended in your smoothie or used as a garnish on top. They're also great for salads.
The remaining two ingredients for our smoothie recipe are our favourite sweeteners. Fibre rich dates and hydrating coconut water. Makes this anti-ager taste delicious without compromising the nutritional integrity.
Anti-Ageing Smoothie Recipe
- Makes 1 serve.
- Takes 2 minutes.
- Pumpkin seeds - 1 cup
- Kale - 1 cup
- Spinach - 1 cup
- Lemon - 1/2, peeled
- Dates - 3
- Coconut water - 1 1/2 cups
- Ice - handful
- Hemp seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Put all the ingredients in a blender for 20-30 seconds
- Pour and enjoy
