Unlike the U.S, hemp seeds are deemed illegal in Australia. Our ignorant government is unable to distinguish between the stuff with THC (cannabis, mary j, OG kush, the chronic, weed, mauie wowie, jamaican red etc) and hemp seeds. So much so that brands in Australia have to put a huge sticker on their packaging that says their product is not for human consumption. Apparently the $70/kg we spend at health food stores on hemp foods is so we can turn our dogs into Rocky:
Which is a shame given hemp seeds are potentially the best source of plant based protein on the planet. A few tablespoons will equate to 10 grams of protein and they are one of the only plants to contain all nine amino acids. Plus they're seriously dense in omega 3s and 6s. So we should all eat a lot more.
How To Eat More Hemp
Include them in your chia puddings and overnight oats. Sprinkle them on salads, or even soups. And definitely get a few hemp seeds into your smoothies. Either blend on top or go Instagram friendly and garnish them up top.
