James McLoughlin

I co-founded Green Press in 2013.

I grew up in Alice Springs, the Australian outback, with absolutely no understanding of what healthy food is. Mum would preach vegetables but then she would serve us spinach that had bean sautéed to death. I'd rather live off ice cream and let my teenage metabolism get me through.

It wasn't until I packed my bags and moved to New York with absolutely no purpose that I discovered healthy eating. It took some time but I got swept up in the Joe Cross 'Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead' momentum that started the global cold pressed juicing movement. I loved juice as it allowed me to absorb pounds of green vegetables and still eat New York pizza every day. Eventually my tastebuds evolved and I craved green foods as well. But juicing, and smoothies, was the gateway.

At the same time, I was living next to the original Juice Press location and saw the commercial opportunity of following my new diet. So I teamed up with my chef brother and talented girlfriend (now fiance) to bring a similar concept to Melbourne Australia.

We ran the Green Press store for three years but food and retail proved to be an impossibly challenging combo. A broken fridge one day, an unreliable employee the next, challenges literally smack you everyday. It's hard to get a return on your effort with all of the challenges. Plus, our Melbourne CBD store could only really impact people within 2-3 blocks.

We set up a blog and that's where I found my passion. Writing and sharing content. Trying to relay my learnings as I strive to eat better, live longer and age slower. Plus I can't wait to explore baby nutrition when my little girl Pia gets fangs and an appetite.

I can't wait to see how Green Press evolves and thank you for finding us on this world wide web.
